NAPSTER ON THE BRINK?

Although Napster are furiously denying it, the rumours are starting to circulate that the company is finding it hard going straight. Indeed, "insiders" are rushing aboutsaying how 2006 looks rosy, while outsiders... well, outsiders aren't convinced:

Results for Napster's most recently completed quarter, Q3 FY2006, which ended 31 December 2005, are due to be made public early next month. The company's second quarter, ended 30 September 2005, led it to report a net loss of $13.61m (32 cents a share) on revenues of $23.38m.

To make matters worse, it appears that in the UK Napster was beaten into third place over Christmas by the Sony music store; it's also facing tough competition for the scraps left behind by iTunes from Wippit. Rumours insist that Napster is plotting to scale down its UK operation.
