MACCA TAKES A UNIQUE APPROACH TO PLANNING PERMISSION

We guess this is the way rich people's minds work: Paul McCartney has built a lodge without permission in an area of outstanding natural beauty. He's beeen told to pull it down.

His response?

What about if I pull down another building instead?

You have to hope that the local council doesn't let this sort of gambit - one that could only be wielded by the excessively wealthy, with houses to spare - set a precedent, otherwise where will it end? "Yes, I have illegally opened a charnel house in the grounds of the orphanage, but what I'll do is close down the rendering plant and then we'll be square, yeah?"
