Not under my backyard

Curious things, planning laws, aren't they? On one hand, you might choose to ignore them and, ooh, build some sort of massive summerhouse in a beauty spot, and then - when asked by the planners to remove it - kick up a stink, dig in your heels and suggest you knock something else down instead.

On the other hand, when you hear of a plan to build a much-needed rail link under your London studios, you fly into a bate and object in writing.

Let's just hope, Paul McCartney, they don't just go ahead and build the railway and then - if they don't get permission for it - just offer to rip up a different stretch of track, eh?
