Babyshambles: Tickets left at all prices
Of course, there's a while to go yet, but the Mirror is reporting that ticket sales for Babyshambles' arena tour aren't exactly flying out. Of course, when the paper reports "thousands" remain unsold it doesn't actually bother with a figure, and "thousands" could point to something between a few embarrassing gaps in some the venues to a humiliating loss-making experience.
We're going to guess at somewhere in the middle: there just aren't enough people willing to pay so much to see Babyshambles in such circumstances. A bigger tour of the next venue down could probably sell out quite easily, but this smacks of a band booking on the basis of appearances in gossip columns rather than actual records sold.

Given their gig history, maybe people aren't willing to pay non-refundable costs (travel, accommodation, ticket fees etc) because they know that they are more likely to see Lord Lucan riding around on Shergar than Babyshambles complete a high-profile tour without some more column-inch-earning pull-outs.
I'm still suspicious of this arena tour. I'll be looking forward to seeing how Mr Doherty balances the dual responsibility of the tabloid-friendly shambolic junkie and the arena-friendly touring artiste.
And really, Babyshambles songs sound weak when you listen on headphones;how are they going to sound from the back row of Scunthorpe Collosodome?
as a big doherty fan - and an objective one (i haven't seem him live in quite some time, didn't bother buying the last single) - i'm apprehensive about these gigs simply because babyshambles are not the clash - they're not gonna make the leap from club to arena a successful one. it's poor management that has seem them book these gigs...all you need to do is log on to thelibertines.org forum to get the general feeling of what people think of babyshambles and what they are capable of. they're capable of writing great songs, playing great gigs in small venues. nothing more nothing less. this is like flying before you can walk.
