Florence And The Machine go all 3D

Grazia are doing one of those oh-so-2008 augmented reality specials, focusing on Florence And The Machine:

An iPhone app will unlock further special features, including the ability to “spin Florence around by blowing into your iPhone and take a picture of her in any location”, said Bauer.

That really doesn't sound like behaviour appropriate for a grown man. Not in public, anyway.

Michael Jackson: The dead start to walk in their masquerade

Given that the Thriller video is basically about once-vibrant creatures crawling from the grave in a horrible, distorted, purposeless format, perhaps it's not inappropriate that they're thinking of turning it into a 3D feature:

[Director Jon] Landis also dropped the new that the owners of Jackson’s estate want to convert the music video into 3D. Landis is apparently fine with the idea even though he might not be a fan of the technology.

I imagine the way that 3D glasses make it look like someone's actually throwing money at you would help with Landis' coming to terms with the plan.

[Thanks to Michael M, who supplied the story with a one-word email - "why?"]

Grammys 2010: Michael Jackson in 3D

The first Grammys since the death of Michael Jackson. Probably be fair to mark the passing of the man - he bought a lot of thick carpet for music industry offices. But how to pay tribute?

You don't want it to be anything tacky, or trashy, or cheap, or gimmicky, would you?

Hang on, you say you have an idea?

Grammys will stage 3-D tribute to Michael Jackson

Well, I suppose at least we can stand the MiniPops down.

The audience will be treated - and I use that word as a curse - to Jackson doing Earth Song in three dimensions. It'll be almost as if the music industry hadn't killed him.

Hannah Montana: Our line of defence against Bono

In what was possibly conceived as a gesture towards the one he loves most, Bono had been hoping to dominate 3D cinemas on Valentine's Day. Plans had been laid to push the 3D U2 movie into as many theatres as possible for February 14th.

Trouble is, it's been scuppered: Hannah Montana needs the screens and, in what might prove something of a blow to Mr Vox's ego, he might be able to demand an audience with Henry Kissinger, but when it comes to the multiplexes, it's Miley Cyrus who has the weight.

U2 in 3D

As if Bono turning up and spoiling international political events and charidde singalongs wasn't bad enough, now he's ruining Cannes, too.

For reasons we can only think have something to do with making the largest sum of money possible, U2 have launched a 3D movie of bits of their gigs strung together. Apparently it's very effective; you feel as if Bono's ego is really about to swamp you at any moment.

You have to wear one of those stupid pairs of coloured glasses wrapped round your head to experience the 3D effect, but at least with U2 you're looking at someone else with an even more stupid pair of coloured glasses wrapped round his head.

From the man who brought you Jesus' grave

The increasingly curious world of James Cameron offers entertainments and delights. Last week he was running round telling anyone who wanted to hear that he'd found Jesus' grave; this week, he's pushing the idea of making pop videos in 3D. Interscope Geffen A&M Records has rushed forward to embrace the concept:

"When I saw what James Cameron was doing with his dedication and wizardry to the 3-D platform, it seemed like the perfect combination for us to do some groundbreaking work," said [Jimmy] Iovine.

Times, supposedly hard in the music business, not so hard as to piss away money on the sort of wonky concept that barely managed to amuse the simpler 1950s audiences for a fortnight and scraped together a half-hour of novelty in the early days of TVS. They've already poured cash into making a 3D video for a Gwen Stefani single (the video has never been shown) and so are thrilled at the idea of burning through more money making 3D live concert films.

And, yes, it does still require you to wear those glasses with the Quality Street wrappers in the lenses.

Jaws 3D, anyone?

Call us paranoid

But 3D suddenly arrested on drugs and porn charges?

We hope Somerset and Avon police have got something very solid, otherwise the arrest of one of the most vocal critics of the government's Iraq policy might just be a little too convenient for words.

Damon Albarn - you might want to go into hiding.
