Stone Roses: No tour, probably

There is to be no Stone Roses tour. Ian Brown and John Squire say so.

Given they've not agreed on anything in two decades, that's got to be significant.

"I guess the 20th anniversary of the album has got folk speculating," said a spokeswoman for the former guitarist.

The statement added: "John Squire has just completed another exhibition in London and has plans to take it to Japan in July. Right now this is his priority. "

The people of Japan would never forgive him if he put that on hold, even for a couple of months.

And Ian Brown? What's he too busy doing?

A spokeswoman at Brown's label Fiction/Polydor said: "We know nothing about this. Ian is working on his new studio album which is due out later this year."

So, at this rate, it looks like Mani will be doing the tour on his own. Which he seems to be up for.

Abba don't fight - Abba

The perpetual myth that Abba - especially the women - fought like a stoats in a stovepipe hat refuses to die; Agnetha and Anni-Frid have had another go at killing it off:

"A lot has been written about how Agnetha and I fought and quarreled with each other. There is absolutely no truth in that," Lyngstad was quoted as saying by tabloid Aftonbladet. "Of course we competed, but to good effect."

"No, we didn't fight. But we have to live [with] a whole lot of such misinterpretations," Faltskog said.

The pair were accepting a lifetime achievement award; it's probably they used the prize as some sort of weapon to hit each other with as soon as nobody was looking.

Peaches: It's on again

BBC News Online is reporting denials of today's News of the World story that Peaches Geldof is divorcing her husband, Thingy McThing of the Chester Cheetos.

Mind you, BBC News Online also describes Geldof as a "dj and television presenter", so I'm not sure I'd accept their word on this one.

David Lee Roth can chomp nuts all he likes

Former celebrities denying stories they feature in is nothing new, but having to issue a statement rejecting claims of a peanut allergy might be a first.

Canadian police had basked in the glory of saving Dave Lee Roth's life:

Over a month ago, the rockstar was pulled over for speeding and told the officers he was having a medical emergency.

Roth was suffering an allergic reaction to nuts.

The officers called an ambulance and kept the musician safe until help could arrive.

Now, though, Roth is denying that this ever happened, or at least ever happened to him:

“I was in Canada only from July 1st through the 4th for a performance at the Quebec City Summer Festival,” Roth said in a statement issued Thursday. “I had no encounters or incidents with the police.”

Van Halen’s on-again, off-again lead singer added: “The only thing I’m allergic to is criticism.”

... and, we're given to understand, carries a special pen to help him when he comes into contact with that. It's now being assumed that the man police met was an imposter; it's not clear if he was a peanut-allergic Roth lookalike, or simultaneously embarked on two lies at the same time.
