Coldplay settle

The lawsuit which saw Joe Satriani claim to have written one of Coldplay's songs has ended. It looks like a deal has been done which leaves Coldplay admitting doing nothing wrong, but Satriani satisfied with the outcome. It's all a secret, though. So say nothing, right?

Chris Martin and the law of unintended consequences

Oh, shit. All those complaints suggesting Coldplay ripped off Joey Satriani, Yusuf Islam, Mr Blobby and all are coming back to bite us in the ass. They're making them make more musics:

Yeah, some people are suing us at the moment and although it was initially a bit depressing, now it’s become really inspiring,” Martin said. “You think, ‘Right, if everyone’s trying to take away our best song, then we’d better write 25 better ones.’ And so just at the point where I was thinking about getting fat and becoming complacent, I’ve been finding more inspiration. Now we’ve got more to prove than ever before.”

Admittedly, writing songs better than the ones that Coldplay have already done isn't setting the bar for achievement all that high, but do we really need 25 new Coldplay songs? What have we done to deserve that?

Still, Martin is busily now working on writing some new songs. His first move has been to try and work out how Ride did that bell sound on Dreams Burn Down.

Coldplay won't leave the Grammys empty-handed

However amusing the idea of Coldplay being served papers by Joe Satriani's lawyers at the Grammys might be, you'd have to say it's neither the time nor the place:

The firm [King Paterno] claims that Coldplay has dodged being served, and that the Grammys are the easiest forum at which to strike while the iron is hot.

[Howard] King says, "We have warned their British lawyers that we have hired a fleet of process servers lined up to dog the band everywhere they go this weekend in the hopes of serving them."

King even promises to have camera crews roaming around with the process servers to get the whole thing on tape.

Which is good news, of course, for TMZ.

Let's hope that the paper-servers know who Chris Martin is. Fox news is clearly afraid their readers wont:

Maybe Martin could avoid the papers by not standing next to Paltrow on the evening.

Stretching the definition of "supergroup"

Meet Chickenfoot, a sort-of-supergroup:

Sammy Hagar recently started a new "supergroup" with ex-VAN HALEN bassist Michael Anthony, guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani and RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS drummer Chad Smith. The band, tentatively called CHICKENFOOT, will enter the studio to begin recording its debut album this summer.

It's not so much supergroup as doing something interesting with leftovers, is it?

Still, Hagar is not without ambition for his bunch of pirate-types:
"We've written eight, nine songs...When people hear the music, it's LED ZEPPELIN. It's as good as that. I know that's a mighty bold statement...We could rival ZEP."

Well, yes, you could, potentially. Or Tin Machine. Maybe you should start by trying to best Tin Machine.
