Lindsay Lohan gets her day in court. And prison

Lindsay Lohan has been sent to prison for her DUI offences.

For a day.

With good behaviour, she could be out in time for Deal Or No Deal.

She's issued a statement, so if you have tears, prepare to shed them now:

"It is clear to me that my life has become completely unmanageable because I am addicted to alcohol and drugs.

"Recently I relapsed and did things for which I am ashamed. I broke the law and today I took responsibility by pleading guilty to the charges in my case."

She's also going to do some community service, and, naturally, there will be a "drug treatment programme" for Lindsay to finish. If the programme's half as good as the Herbie film, we're all in trouble.

Method Man offers to help out

Method Man has taken a deal to do community service after his legal-run in when he was stopped with dope both in his car and his bloodstream at a Brooklyn tollbooth.

His people are trying to spin it, though:

Defending his client's reputation, his lawyer Peter Frankel, tells the New York Daily News, "He's never been in trouble with the law before. This is a guy who flies in the face of all stereotypes about rappers."

Nice try, but only someone who'd smoked as much dope as Method man would buy that. Fly in the face of the stereotypes? He was so high, he could have flown over the Tollbooths.

George Michael blows out of court

Luckily for everyone involved in this weekend's George Michael gigs, the man has been spared prison for driving while drucked up to the eyeballs.

George has moaned that the papers were interested only in the prosecution case - which, seeing as he pleaded guilty, and his ridiculous claims that somehow, despite having pleaded guilty to breaking the law he hadn't broken the law, seems a little unfair:

Reading from a prepared statement, he called the media coverage of the case "farcical" and said reporters had concentrated on the prosecution's case.

"I'm glad to put this behind me," he added. "Now I'm off to do the biggest show of my life."

It's not entirely clear how Michael expects to play Live Aid this weekend, but we wish him luck.

He's got 100 hours of community service and a two year driving ban.

Drug use is Taboo; Taboo "is a drug user"

Taboo, the one out the Black Eyed Peas, not the spirit drink that was launched at the same-time as the less popular Mirage, has been charged with a couple of minor drugs offences.

The Black Eyed Pea has been accused of "possession of marijuana, prescribed medication and driving under the influence." Prosecutors hit out at California Law, under which it is impossible to charge someone simply with being a member of the Black Eyed Peas.

George Michael: I'm your man, your honour

George Michael has changed his mind and pleaded guilty to driuving while unfit, although he maintains he was merely tired and whacked out on prescription drugs. He told the judge:

"I did something very stupid and I am very ashamed since doing it.

"I'm not used to defending myself in a position where I am ashamed of something.

"I really have been very distressed by this whole thing.

"I am perfectly aware that I did something very wrong and got into my car when I was unfit to drive.

"I was not in my normal physical state and I'm perfectly prepared to accept the correct punishment for that."

We really must ask George sometime where's he found a doctor who prescribes the drugs he was on at the time.

Sentencing has been adjourned to "allow blood tests to be carried out" - although since the car accident happened in October, we're not sure what they're meant to prove now.

We're sure the change of heart is down to genuine contrition and not because the trial was due to take place the day before his Wembley gig with potentially awkward side-effects if he'd been found guilty. Of course.
