Gordon in the morning: I've seen the future in the tracks of your tears

To be fair, Gordon's got a pretty nice story this morning.

Mani's wife recalls something her husband once said:

She tweeted: “City’s win is all down to Mani.

"He predicted years ago that the Stone Roses would play again after City won the league! Nostradamus or what?”
Okay, it's copying something off Twitter, which is hardly going to win a Pulitzer, but it was a lovely spot.

Gordon in the morning: You'd be happier doing sports, wouldn't you, pet?

By snaffling a photo of Liam Gallagher from Twitter, Gordon found an excuse to file a report on the FA Cup semi final:

It was a triumphant day for the Blues, despite a row erupting on the pitch between their tetchy star MARIO BALOTELLI and United's RIO FERDINAND and ANDERSON.
Psst, Gordon... you're meant to be the showbiz guy?
That was probably the icing on the cake for Liam.
Still, I'm glad Gordon mentioned rivals having a pop at each other, as there's a wonderful story in the current Private Eye which could teach that pair a lesson about good sportsmanship. The Eye relates how, after the News Of The World's Stephen Moyes beat Gordon to scoop of the year at the British Press Awards, Gordon:
... [was] quick to rush over and congratulate [Moyes], and [well done] particularly for the sportsmanlike way he got very close and shouted his words of praise directly into Moyes' face lest he fail to hear him over the hubbub of the event.
It, erm, must have been the icing on the cake for Gordon.

Jay-Z "supports" Arsenal

I'm sure you, in common with many of us, have had little sleep since the rumours arose that Jay-Z might Manchester City rather than Arsenal.

Now, we can breathe easily, and sleep again, as he's confirmed that he supports, in some way, Arsenal after all:

"After that game the press started reporting that I was a Manchester City fan, I am really glad all that has been cleared up and that everybody in the UK knows that I am an Arsenal fan," he explained.

Yes, it must have been terrible with some people thinking that you had a vague interest in a slightly different team to the one you're actually not really that bothered about but are a bit.

Jay Z went on to sound like he knew a little bit about this soccerball:
"It was about five years ago now," he said. "When Thierry Henry was at the club I saw him play and I just thought he was an amazing player. Ever since then I have been a big fan of the club, following you guys, and still today you play the beautiful football that Thierry did. I think he had a real long term-effect on the team."

I might be being a little cynical, but this sounds less like the way football supporters talk about football, and more like the sort of thing you'd say if you'd phoned someone up to give you something to say to make it sound like you knew about football.

Football? Is that still going?

It seems the people who own Manchester City aren't that happy with Sven Goran-Eriksson, and have told him they're going to sack him over the summer. God alone knows why they're so upset he's got to go, but not for a couple of months. Perhaps they're deciding if they'd be better off playing cricket instead.

Anyway, the most famous Man City supporter isn't happy, either. Noel Gallagher, who lives just a step or two from the Man City ground in London, Manchester has started honking:

"To get rid of him [Eriksson] after the best season I can remember is ridiculous. It can't be for any footballing reasons.

"For a club that's been going nowhere fast for the last 25 years, with a manager who's the best out there bar Jose Mourinho… he turned it around and gave us a bit of style and dignity and grace. He bought some great players. The fans have got pride back in the club… I just think it's beyond a joke.

"We've got a manager who's got style. If the owner thought they could come in and qualify for the Champions League straight away then he's tripping. It'd be like sacking David Moyes at Everton or Martin O'Neill at Aston Villa because they didn't qualify. It takes more than one season.

"Eriksson is a graceful and dignified man. This guy Shinawatra has come in and he seems like a bit of a nutcase. The only thing that will get him off the hook is if he's got Mourinho lined up. Apart from Mourinho Eriksson's the best thing out there.

"I'd be amazed and appalled if I met a City fan who thought getting rid of Eriksson was a good thing. They all love him up there. I'd give him a big kiss and say, 'You know what, you take them to the cleaners.'"

Sorry, we would have edited that down but couldn't actually find any bit worth saving. We did, however, find some pretzels we'd forgotten about in the bottom of the bag. Delicious.

Noel wants to grab the Man City

One of the few pieces of respect we still have for Noel Gallagher is that he has, at least, always remained dedicated to his team. Although his plans to band together with Mike Pickering and try and buy Man City pushes him from ordinary fan into the realm of an Elton John, or, dare one say it, Jim Davidson:

"I'm thinking of mounting a hostile takeover - me and Mike Pickering.

"I reckon we could scrape together about £400,000 in cash and I reckon we would get it for that."

Well, yes, the money should be easy... to, erm, buy into... club... a classy club. Club class. Do you get less legroom if you only have little legs? I wonder... hmm....
