Julian Cope: The movie

This is potentially fascinating: David Morrissey has bought the rights to Julian Cope's Head On and is trying to secure funding to turn it into a movie.

At the moment, Morrissey is thinking of being Bill Drummond and - inevitably - Rhys Ifans is being muttered about for the Cope role. (Really? Is it now a law that Ifans is the only person in the UK who can pretend to have done drugs in front of a camera?)

No word yet on potential casting for Pete Wylie, but I hear that Pete Wylie might be available.

Gordon in the morning: Locked lips

It doesn't really matter who it's about, all you need to know is a grown man wrote this in a newspaper this morning:

The pair couldn’t keep their hands off each other and locked lips in full view of fellow frolickers in the bar.

Meanwhile, Gordon laps up Victoria Beckham's trip to Manchester:
They supped £8,000 of vintage bubbly Perrier Jouet Belle Epoque Blanc de Blancs at posh Japanese venue Ithaca in the city.

With dinner included, the final bill was an eye-watering £10,000.

I bet hubby DAVID was relieved to know her perfume producers Coty were footing the bill.

Let's just leave aside that if Beckham needed to raise ten grand, he'd probably need to, ooh, play thirteen seconds of football or do one twenty-millionth of a photoshoot, and just allow our jaws to drop at Smart's 1950s attitude. Mrs. Beckham is out promoting what we shall - this once - call with a straight face "her business"; Gordon assumes that the hubby will be underwriting it all. Let's just hope Victoria was back home in time to cook David's tea, eh, Gordon?

Another free download: The Peth

We'd really like to dislike The Peth, with the presence of Rhys Ifans at their apex. And, while it's true that they add little to the great book of rock that hasn't already been done before, there's something like gormless fun to be had.

And had here, in the free single: Let's Go Fucking Mental.

Yes, even with gratuitous swearing, it's still just the right side of gormless fun.

Gordon in the morning: Will this do?

It's a thin day over on the Bizarre desk this morning, with Gordon reduced to plugging space by running those Blake 'sex' letters again - credited to "Online reporter". And it's always a great sign when nobody wants their name put to a story, isn't it?

The Sun comes over all maiden aunt:

Please note that although we have censored these letters they still contain sexually explicit references that some readers may find offensive.

Yes, there's every chance that someone following a link to a story about Blake's Kinky Rude Sex Letter Shock Kink Sex Rude Rude might suddenly be offensive.

The paper hasn't even been bothered to transcribe the letters - just slapped them on a scanner. Even by the low standards of Bizarre, it's struggling to reach half-arsed.

In the paper, mind, Gordon bangs on for two pages about how much he loves Rhys Ifans' band. Nobody seems to have been able to bring themselves to put that online yet.
