Courtney Love makes the most sensible decision of recent years

When she found out The Current Version Of Hole were booked to play not just the same festival as Limp Bizkit, but straight before Limp Bikzit, Courtney did the the sane thing and pulled out.

Courtney: Hands off, it's my Hole

Courtney Love isn't bothered that the rest of Hole are objecting to her using the band name on her new project:

"It is Hole, yes of course," she said. "How do I do this? It is just because it is, and it is because we just negotiated our thing and it'll be fine. Everyone has good lawyers."

Let's hope those aren't the same good lawyers who dealt with licensing Kurt Cobain to Activision. Or have been in any way associated with Courtney's finances over the years. Or taking care of the issues over who has custody of Frances Bean.

It's not Hole, says Erlandson

Melissa Auf Der Maur is on the new Hole record, and she says it's not a Hole record.

Now, Eric Erlandson says it isn't a Hole record, either. Not just because he isn't on it, but he's got paperwork which proves it can't be:

"We have a contract," Erlandson said in an interview with Spin. "She signed a contract with me when we decided to break up the band, which was like 2002 or something, so I really don't have comment on it except that I know my part in that band. The way I look at it, there is no Hole without me. To put it blunt. Just on a business level."

It's possible that Courtney doesn't remember that contract. Or she found it, and decided Ryan Adams had forged her signature on it. Or, perhaps, she figures that it's a contract which nobody would ever waste their time trying to enforce on the grounds of what restitution would you seek? For Love to have to go and alter the name of the band on everybody's iTunes?

Returning Hole: "First I've heard" says Auf Der Maur

There's been some - not very much, but a little - excitement over the news that Courtney Love's new disappointing album will be released as a disappointing Hole album rather than a disappointing solo one.

Why, it's even going to have Melissa Auf Der Maur on it. What more proof could you need of how Hole-y this Hole album will be?

Oh... hang on a moment, though:

"We have not been in touch too much," Auf der Maur recently told Explore magazine. "We've been in touch this year after 10 years of no contact, I will say that." Though Love remains her "soul sister", Auf der Maur said her contributions to Love's new album are due to the involvement of producer Michael Beinhorn, who also worked on the final Hole record.

"Michael Beinhorn and I had an incredible working relationship on Celebrity Skin," Auf der Maur said. "And he called me and asked me if I would sing on [Courtney's] new solo record – which is what I understood it was. And I said 'Yes' because I enjoy working with him and ... well, she and I have a history of making music together. And I'm happy to visit her again in the future."

But rights to the band name aside, Auf der Maur believes this isn't a Hole project. "I think you can't take a Hole reunion that lightly. It's gonna take a little more organising than just 'I'll come and sing some backups and then we got Hole.'"

Unfortunately, that's probably not going to stop Courtney slapping the name on the record, is it?

Just for fun, you might like to imagine the rambling Courtney MySpace post you'd get if Auf Der Maur had done the same thing in reverse.

Courtney Love reopens her Hole

For textual reasons too difficult to discern without hearing the album, Courtney Love has decided that her next album is going to be released under the Hole band name.

Perhaps by this is means it doesn't sound like a solo Courtney album - although since solo Love is generally music that sounds too weedy to stand alongside her former band's work, maybe that doesn't mean too much.

Melissa auf der Maur appears on the record, although only providing backing vocals; Larrikin Love's Micko is in charge of the guitar. So it's not like it's a classic line-up.

Of course, this is Courtney Love we're talking about. So everything could change within minutes.

Why are you all staring?

It's a hard life being Frances Bean Cobain, it really is:

“These people are fascinated by me, but I haven't done anything.

"If you're a big Nirvana fan, a big Hole fan, then I understand why you would want to get to know me, but I'm not my parents.

“I get it, I really do, but at the same time it's creepy. People need to wait until I've done something valid with my life."

It's quite cute she's so sweet to her Mom, pretending there are such things as "big Hole fans". Of course, her protestations that 'little ole me ain't done anything' would be a bit more convincing if she wasn't talking to Harpers Bazaar while doing a fashion shoot for them. Shouldn't she have told Harpers that she's not done anything worthy of a big spread in a glossy magazine?

More and more, it seems like David Gedge was lucky to get punched

It really doesn't bear thinking about: Alex James and Courtney Love were, briefly, the sort of rock power couple you read about in magazines:

"She liked my shirt and gave me her phone number. I thought about it and called her.

"I wondered what booze to take to her house and settled on a magnum of rose champagne. We drank it quickly and straight from the bottle."

At this point in the story, we make our excuses and leave. Leave, to go and scrub our imagination's eyeballs clean.

Get into Courtney Love's pants

Yes, we know, every time there's a celebrity auction we use the same headline, but it provides a degree of consistency that would otherwise be sorely lacking.

This time it's Courtney Love, who's getting rid of what she claims are her pre-slimming clothes on eBay. We know some people might feel a little queasy about wearing something that Courtney had rubbed herself on, but since she hardly wore anything for very long, you won't have to worry too much.

All profits raised from the sale go to charity; it's not known if she intends to start flogging off the bucket they gave after the liposuction she didn't have.
